Out of the Dark is a song about searching for the light in the darkness, trying to discover the best in ourselves and those around us. We have to be the first to change to bring about change.
It pays homage to the fabulous Kristin McClement whose song 'Pursue the Blues' was inspirational to this tune.
For this album I asked lots of different drummers to record me beats to write to. This song was crafted to a beat written by Jamie Whitby-Coles but then took its own direction. The drum machine ended up replacing the original drums as it added the grit and drive that the song needed.
lyrics
I want to try to believe
That people say what they mean
I want to try to believe
That people say, say what they mean
You, you see through
All the coulds, shoulds and woulds are a means of excuse
I want to try to believe
That we can be the change we want to see
I want to try to believe
That we can be the change we want to see
Can you see it to?
I’m asking cause the weight on your sleeve is pulling threads loose
Out of the dark into your heart
Darling I
I know you
Oh I see too darling I
I know
You pursue the blues
In the weight of the truth
I’ve got to try to believe
That we can live in harmony
Augmented chords shine new light on how I see fourths.
Out of the dark into your heart
Darling I
I know you
Oh I see too darling I
I know you
Out of the dark into your heart
Darling I
I know you
Oh I see too darling I
I know
You pursue the blues
In the weight of the truth
But I’ll keep faith, I’ll keep on trying.
